Kembali Kepada Rakyat / Back To The People

Back to the People”

To commemorate the National Independence Day celebration this month, Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) is launching a campaign themed “Back to The People” in acknowledgement of the struggle of the people. This is also to remind the Barisan Nasional (BN) government of the role the people had played in the nation’s struggle for Independence. They were the real heroes in the struggle; the ones who sacrificed for the country’s independence.

Over the years, the role of the people in the struggle for Independence has gradually been erased from the nation’s memory by the BN government.   At the same time, the role of many important institutions such as welfare bodies (KWSP, Perkeso and others) the Media, the Police and the Judiciary has been restricted  by the BN government in an attempt to erode the people’s democratic rights and personal liberties.

Despite shedding tears, sweat and blood in their fight for freedom, the role of the people in the struggle has conveniently been overlooked while the country’s “development” is not shared by everyone. Worse, this abuse of power and corruption have increased and BN leaders have grown more arrogant and ruthless by day.

Hence, in conjunction with the 45th Merdeka celebration this month, PRM pledges to reclaim the voice of the people and uphold the human rights of the People. We also want   the nation’s wealth and progress to be equally enjoyed by all strata of society, and not merely the elite.

To begin with, the BN leadership needs to recognise the contributions and sacrifice of the people for the sake of our continuing independence. Subsequently, the people need to be given the opportunity and the power to fulfil their roles in the political process and gain their rightful share in the distribution of the country’s wealth.

At this juncture, it is vital for us to ensure that all basic rights of the people, regardless of race, religion or gender, are respected and protected; including the right of free speech and freedom of assembly as well as the right to employment, education, housing and health.

Through this campaign, PRM aims to increase public awareness on their rights, including the freedom to protest, criticise and abolish any detrimental government policies. More importantly, PRM aims to be one with the people, especially the workers, farmers, youths, women, indigenous people and others, to protect the rights and needs of the people in the fight for democracy, justice, truth, welfare and unity.

We urge these groups to join PRM in this effort with full solidarity and join us in the fight against cruelty, abuse, oppression and disunity as practised by the BN government.
